ROLL-UP ... the outdoor bowls season gets under way in a few weeks and clubs have opened their doors to sign up members.
Both Eastfield and Borough held open days with dozens joining them.
At Borough’s Manor Road green the day got off to a traditional start with president Mick Gates rolling the first wood.
“Even though we have had our open day people can sign up any time – they do not have to compete in the leagues, they can just bowl socially,” said Borough chairman Pete Charter.
Borough has 70 members and 13 teams which compete across all leagues, from singles to doubles.
It has just launched its own website with details of membership, officials, leagues and events detailed on it. There is also a link to the Scarborough Evening News so users can keep up to date with all sport and news.

“I would like to thank member Malcolm Stephenson and his nephew Mark for designing the site and getting it up and running,” said Mr Charter.
Borough is hosting a fun day for its members tomorrow from 1pm.
At Strongwood-based Eastfield, the club is preparing to host its first merit of the spring on Sunday April 1. It is a drawn pairs competition. Its matches start on Monday April 2.
“We had a good sign-up day,” said Eastfield treasurer Anne Ridge, “and are looking forward to the new season.”
Both club representatives said that there is still plenty of time for those interested to join.
