It was a double dose of bad news for Scarborough as the club bowed out of the Yorkshire Shield to Middlesbrough and influential second row James Leach suffered a horrendous injury causing the game to be switched to the second pitch.
Scarborough started brightly and dominated the opening 25 minutes.
The visitors grew into the game and two penalties and a converted try gave them a 13-0 lead at the break.
Middlesbrough extended their lead with a try early in the second half before the injury to Leach.
After a delay the game resumed on the second team pitch whilst Leach received treatment and an ambulance arrived.
Scarborough rallied with tries from Aaron Wilson and Matty Young and spurned a glorious opportunity to go in front before Middlesbrough sealed a deserved victory with a converted try.
