Skipper Matty Jones has arrived from New Zealand in time to make it into the squad for Saturday's Yorkshire One game at Yarnbury.
Following the huge disappointment of just failing with the difficult kick which would have salvaged a draw following a spirited fight-back against high-flying West Leeds at Silver Royd last Saturday, Scarborough will take the positives from their performance on the road tomorrow as they travel to Leeds.
Joining Jones in the squad is American Devin Ibanez, the former only arrived in the UK yesterday and Ibanez reported for duty on Tuesday.
Graham Hogg misses the game injured but centre Billy Parker takes his place.
Youngster Tom Burton makes his first team debut following an outstanding game at Scunthorpe for the Vikings in which he scored a couple of spectacular tries and Tom Ratcliffe has recovered from a back injury which saw him miss the second half of the game with West Leeds.
Yarnbury lost their opening three games conceding almost 100 points but bounced back with a 27-25 win at bottom club Heath last Saturday which was a surprise as Heath were highly fancied before the season kicked off.
In the corresponding game last season the Seasiders snatched an injury-time 29-29 draw in January with a touchline conversion by Ratcliffe; they earned a bonus-point with a 28-12 home win at Silver Royd in October.
There will be a coach to this fixture, meeting at 11.30am.
The Vikings and Danesmen are also in action tomorrow against Hull & York Medics and Goole respectively.
All senior games kick-off at 3pm.
Following their terrific opening win on the road at Bishop Auckland two weeks ago, Scarborough’s ladies team the Valkryies are in action on Sunday in their first home game of the season as they take on Bradford Salem Ladies.
Plenty of action is guaranteed and the game kicks off at 2pm.
A couple of weeks ago Assistant Leisure Manager at BARONS, Dave Mort had a ‘go’ at rugby for the first time with a mixed sex and ability group and rounded off an enjoyable evening scoring a try; He was suitably chuffed with his effort.
I did report at the time that it wouldn’t be too long until we see the big guy on the rugby field. Well it has come even sooner than I forecast and he turns out in his first ever game of rugby for the Norsemen against Goole on Saturday. The very best of luck Dave!
