Scarborough RUFC received a huge festive boost after they were again awarded Yorkshire’s home clash against Roses rivals Lancashire.

The pair have met at Silver Royd before and will meet at Scarborough RUFC’s impressive £4million Scalby Road HQ again after impressing organisers with their hosting of several high-key fixtures in recent years.

The Roses clash is yet another coup for the club after they successfully hosted Yorkshire Carnegie’s British & Irish Cup win against London Scottish earlier this month.

The Roses battle will take place on Saturday May 7 2016, and the club are planning a host of matchday activities for younger fans and corporate packages for those wishing to watch the match in style.

CEO Graeme Young said: “It’s a huge coup for the club and continues our strategy of promoting grassroots rugby while attracting showcase fixtures to Silver Royd.

“The negotiations were tough and took a while as we faced some stiff competition from Doncaster Knights.

“To see them off and secure the game when they’re a club geared up for the Premiership is a huge capture for us.”

Young is hoping to conclude negotiations to add a showpiece fixture to precede the main event.

Yorkshire Ladies’ clash against Staffordshire in the inaugural Women’s County Championship could be that fixture.

Young added: “We hosted Yorkshire’s Ladies previously and it was a huge success, so to host a fixture in the first Women’s County Championship would be fantastic.

“We’re really looking to make a big occassion of it again. There will be a marquee up at the club again on the day and we’re aiming to make it the biggest corporate operation we’ve hosted yet.”

Tables for the pre-match luncheon have already gone on pre-sale and Young admits several have already been snapped up.

“Tables are already being reserved for the day, it’ll be a great day.”
