BOROUGH BC’s drawn pairs merit competition on Sunday attracted 76 bowlers to the Manor Road green with home player Bob Walker and partner Steve Dover (Whitby) finishing as worthy winners.
In the quarter-finals Jo Leeman (Whitby) and Dave Lowe (Dukes Park) beat A Webb and Lynne Gates (Borough) 21-17, Mick Dawson (Eastfield) and Tom Silcock (Barnsley) beat Terry Firth (Westgate) and Derrick Swift (North Cliff) 21-14, Amanda Hagen (Castleford) and Andy Deighton (Dukes Park) beat Wayne Adams (North Cliff) and Tony Bland (Borough) 21-8 and Walker and Dover beat Mary Tyson (North Cliff) and Terry Summersgill (Borough) 21-9.
Excellent play in the semi-finals resulted in Dawson and Silcock beating Leeman and Lowe 21-18 while Walker and Dover beat Hagan and Deighton 21-16.
With four on the card the final contest was 6-6 after three ends, with Walker and Dover then taking the lead to 14-9 at the 10th end.
Dawson and Silcock staged a comeback and trailed just 15-14 at the 19th end before Walker and Dover scored two at the last three ends for a 21-14 victory.
Prizes were presented by Borough president Rita Bland, who thanked all who had helped make it a successful day.
