Cloughton 2nds batsmen Jacob Codling and Liam Buglass steered their side to a seven-wicket win in tonight's Severfield T20 Cup final at a sun-drenched Staxton.

Cloughton looked to be in trouble when skipper Liam Salt was dismissed by paceman Andy Sellers from the first ball of their run-chase, and when star player Sean Exley departed for 15 Lockton must have felt they had a chance with Cloughton on 25-2 chasing 104 to win.

But a tidy knock from Mark Pryce, 19, and composed innings from teenage all-rounder Codling, 25no, and Liam Buglass, 23no, saw Cloughton safely home despite tight bowling from Simon Oxendale, 1-19.

Lockton had earlier won the toss and skipper Gareth Driver chose to bat but his side were soon rocking thanks to tight bowling from seamers Codling and Mikey Barker, Niall Gibb then coming on first change to take 3-15.

Veteran Simon Boyes hit 26 and Rob Stead an unbeaten 15 to ensure Lockton made it to three figures, Lewis Taylor bowling well near the end for Cloughton to record 2-14 as Lockton lost wickets at regular intervals.

The ground fielding of the youthful Cloughton team was outstanding, with Barker taking a very good catch on the boundary.

The total of 103-9 never looked like enough and, despite their early wobbles, victory was secured by Cloughton with several overs to spare thanks to four wides, sparking celebrations among the sizeable 'Barmy Army' of Cloughton fans, who offered their players plenty of encouragement throughout the final.

Salt collected the Severfield Cup from Simon Barnes, representing Severfield after the game, with Codling receiving a £20 voucher from man of the match sponsors Owzat Cricket Scarborough for his superb performance.
