Rising stars impress at Richardson's Cycle Club opener

Richardson's Cycle Club members have been in top form in the early weeks of the season.

Richardson’s riders started their cycle racing season with events for children at Filey Country Park and in Dalby forest, a MTB cross country race for adults at Hunmanby Hall and time trials on the road.

The popular children’s events saw some enthusiastic efforts, first over the finish line in the circuit race for children aged under six years were Isla Jones, Riley Rooney and Jackson Banyard.

Winner of the girls under-eights was Erin Griffiths, Ryan Garbutt a clear winner in the boy’s event.

Millie Jarvis came in first in the under-10s girls event while Andrew Prole and Harry Wardle tied for first in the boys event.

Some familiar names were among the winners in the under-12s, Libby Sykes and Lilly Knight of the girls, Ozzy Stringer and Liam Lake of the boys.

The event at Dalby included skills training and a short time trial.

The Mountain Bike cross country race using the circuit at Hunmanby Hall was won by guest rider John Galway.

He completed 11 laps in the one-hour event just ahead of the duelling duo from Richardson's, Dan Joyce and Chris Brown.

Outstanding ride of the evening came from under-16s rider Reuben Allanson, his 11 laps showing that he is not just a good downhill competitor.

Second in the under-16s category was Jo Prole with nine laps.

First women to finish were Katy Cawthorn, nursing a broken rib for eight laps, and under-16 Megan Simpson, who is starting to make her mark in events with older young riders.

The 10-mile time-trial at Snainton was won by guest rider Matt Purnell (Paragon)with a time of 24 minutes 9 seconds.

First riders from host club Richardsons were all-rounders Joyce and Brown with times of 25:43 and 25:46 respectively.
