The race for the Beckett League division C title never really got off the ground as relegated Hospitals could not raise a team to play against Scarborough 3rds, resulting in the Scarborough team claiming 20 points and being crowned champions.

But there was a real scrap for the other promotion place, Staithes 2nds looked to be in pole position and after being bowled out on their own pitch for 184, Mathew Sanderson, 57, and Lee Oliver, 63, having batted well against Thornton Dale they were still in the driving seat.

Chris Headlam, 5-62, kept Dale in the match and in reply the visitors showed their potential, knocking off the runs for the loss of six wickets, Lewis White having scored 46, Tim Hunt, 32, Headlam, 38no, and Iain Farrow, 24, despite ex-Thornton player Oliver claiming 3-41.

Duncombe Park 2nds took advantage of Staithes 2nds’ defeat and by beating Ganton by 107 leapt above and into the other promotion place after only one season in the division.

The Helmsley-based team were restricted to 181-7, Barry Wheldon having scored 32 and Jeremy Lascelles 64, James Richardson claiming 4-45.

In reply Ganton had little to offer against David Dunn, 3-21, and Chris Ford, 3-11, and were skittled out for 74.

Scalby 2nds were forced to take tea against Seamer 2nds having scored 108, Callum Plant claiming 3-18 but replying Seamer slipped to 22-5, all-rounder James Wainwright taking 3-7 when rain intervened.

Cloughton 2nds v Wykeham 2nds was rained off without any play.
