All-rounder Mark Dove shone with bat and ball as Staxton B eased to a 106-run against Cloughton B in the McCain Cricket Cup final at Flixton on Thursday night.
Staxton B won the toss and elected to bat and went straight into the attack with Dan Blanchard hitting five fours in the first over and going on to make a fine score of 35.
Staxton lost opener Elliot Cooper for just one run but when captain Andy Dove (28) joined Blanchard they took the score up to 53.
Oliver Sheppard took the first four Staxton wickets to fall to finish with fine figures of 4-32.
Staxton then stuttered to 116-7 but a fine unbroken stand of 56 between Kyle Outhart (8no) and Mark Dove, who reached 50 on the last ball of the innings, took the score up to a superb 172-7, there were 27 extras in Staxton’s total.
In reply Cloughton B had no answer to the bowling of Mark Dove, who took match-winning figures of 6-12 with only openers Richard Ward (10), and Liam Salt (10) and number three Aaron Virr (18) showing any resistance as they were all back in the pavilion for just 66, a massive 106 runs short of their required target.
Josh Grover also finished with fine figures of 2-12 from his four overs.
Edwin Cooper, an Evening Cricket League Vice-President, presented the winners cup to Staxton and the runners-up shield to Cloughton at the end of the game.
Flixton CC were thanked for the use of the ground for the final as were the umpires Stuart Barker and David Wilkinson.
The match scorer Chris Rawson was thanked as was league secretary Bernard Goulding and his wife Linda for all that they do for the Andy Hire Scarborough Evening Cricket League each season.
Result: Staxton B 172-7 (Dan Blanchard 25, Andy Dove 28, Mark Dove 50, Oliver Sheppard 4-32, Craig Lyon 2-29) beat Cloughton B 66 all out (Aaron Virr 18, Mark Dove 6-12, Josh Grover 2-12) by 106 runs.
