Skipper Andy Simpson continued his fine form with the bat for Scarborough at Castleford, his 72 helping the visitors to a four-wicket Yorkshire League win on Saturday.
Simpson once again shared astrong stand with number three batsman Darren Harland, 43, the pair putting on 98 for the second wicket to lay the foundations for a successful pursuit of Castleford’s 171-9.
Liam Hyde’s 61 was the only innings of note for the home side, with Carl Joyce and Theo Smith taking two wickets apiece for the visitors, Charlie Hodgson, Anthony Hunter and Sam Carver taking a wicket apiece for the North Marine Road club.
After losing Pete Shally with the score on 11, Harland and Simpson put Scarborough in a great position with their 98-run stand.
Scarborough then lost a few wickets as they went for victory, but a sixth-wicket stand of 29 between Smith, 24no, and young wicketkeeper Jonathan Read, 11, took them to the brink of victory. After Read’s dismissal, Smith smacked a six off Hyde to secure the win with 5.2 overs remaining.
